Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. According to the World Health Organization, there is one death by suicide every 40 seconds, approximately 1 million deaths per year. It is a major mental health problem, which is preventable. Prevention starts with creating awareness. Take the time to educate yourself regarding facts and risk factors for suicide, and encourage your friends and family members to do the same.
For more information on suicide prevention, check out the World Health Organization and National Institute of Mental Health webpages.
